On July 19, 2023, The Federal Aviation Administration announced that it would finally include helicopters into the Light Sport category, opening the doors for new helicopter pilots to not only train in, but also purchase a safe and affordable personal helicopter.
In anticipation of the new LSA regulations, Advanced Tactics Inc. (a defense contractor in Torrance, California) we will take inspiration from the RotorWay RW7 2-seat helicopter to create the ATRX-700 Light Sport Helicopter.
What does the FAA MOSAIC update mean for helicopter pilots?
The Federal Aviation Authority’s MOSAIC update to the future of the Light Sport Aircraft category is great news for anyone interested in flying helicopters. Light Sport Helicopters will now be easier to fly, easier to find training in, won’t require a 3rd Class Medical, and can come fully-assembled while still maintaining the low cost of entry that experimental aircraft are known for.
Simplified Flight Controls
The new FAA MOSAIC regulations require all aircraft to have simplified “fly-by-wire” flight controls that make the aircraft easier to fly and easier to train in.
Helicopter Flight Training
The addition of helicopters to the Light Sport category means the cost and time that it takes to get a license to fly helicopters is reduced significantly. Advanced Tactics will offer flight training at various locations around the country; and the new requirement for getting licensed to fly Light Sport Helicopters is just 30 hours of helicopter flight time.
No FAA Medical Certificate Required
Another highlight of the Light Sport category is that a 3rd Class Medical is not required. With a driver’s license and training from the factory or a CFI certified for this aircraft, anyone can get licensed to fly, and at a much lower cost than traditional helicopter training. Advanced Tactics will provide training at the facilities in Torrance, California.
Factory-Built Helicopters
Light Sport Helicopters such as the ATRX-700 require no assembly and are flight-ready when delivered from the factory.
Fully Assembled Light Sport Helicopters Inspired by RotorWay
In anticipation of the new LSA regulations, Advanced Tactics Inc. (a defense contractor in Torrance, California) will be taking inspiration from the RotorWay RW7 2-seat helicopter to create the ATRX-700 Light Sport Helicopter.
Advanced Tactics Inc. (AT) will have the ATRX-700 available as a complete “factory-built” and certified LSA helicopter within the next 18 months (February of 2025 unless the FAA regulations are delayed).
AT will ensure that the ATRX-700 qualifies under the new FAA Section 21.190 LSA regulations. We will closely follow the specifications of the new regulation so that the ATRX-700 light sport helicopter will comply with the new LSA regulations as soon as it rolls off the assembly line.
The ATRX-700 is essentially just a more spacious version of the Rotor X Phoenix A600 Turbo, except this one comes fully-assembled and certified for flight.
By utilizing key helicopter components from Rotor X Aircraft and updated technologies such as the fly-by-wire system developed by Advanced Tactics Inc., the ATRX-700 Light Sport Helicopter is set to enter the market on top.
